Another morning started with Kathie taking me back to where she picked me up just before the hail storm.

Today’s interest in the farming process and the grain elevators took most of my attention as I rode. I counted 73 railroad cars waiting to be loaded at one grain elevator. There was very little shade as the landscape is covered by cut grain and young corn. I could see a storm moving in from the west and picked up my pace to try and get to the camp before the storm hit. It worked. Mission accomplished!

When I got cleaned up, we looked for the laundromat we were told was in town. When we paid the campground owner he said that he had owned a laundromat but then closed it. He said we could go to Great Bend, about 75 miles away and watch the fireworks or go to Wakeeney, about 20 miles away. We decided that coming back after fireworks would give us too late of a start the next morning. So we went to Wakeeney to the laundromat.

On the way we saw cows huddled under trees and crowded in ponds to try and catch a break from the heat.

We have been interested in the number and architecture of the churches and saw a church that was particularly beautiful.

When we got to Wakeeney, we looked around and couldn’t find a laundromat. Upon asking some people in town we found it had been closed there also. What now? The nearest laundromat was in Great Bend and it is now about 100 miles away. We decided to get dinner at a Dairy Queen. While there, a van load of Amish people came on a return trip to see their brother in Colorado. We got talking to an older couple, Lucy and Ray, that lived in town. Lucy offered for us to come over and use their washer and dryer. She said it would make her feel good. After we both were done with our meals, we followed them to their house. We listened to their family history while the laundry was being done. We were very appreciative of their willingness to be helpful to us. It was fun getting to know Lucy and Ray. We didn’t get to bed until late, but our clothes are clean.
