Kathie and I got up and ready to go early. We had to backtrack to Torrey for me to began my ride. We filled up with gas and propane. Kathie got to do a little hiking in Capital Reef as I rode on ahead.
Larry and Jeff had made a cold ride to Escalante the night before and Jeff headed home this morning. They had ran into each other in Torrey and had lunch together at the same restaurant as Brandon ate with us the night before. After eating, Larry did some riding in the mountains around Hanksville. After Kathie and I prepared lunch in Hanksville, we headed south toward Bullfrog Basin. I had a flat on my rear tire and had stopped at a culvert to repair it, when up drove Larry Hiss. It was fun to talk to him as I worked. As I was filling the tire with my CO2 cartridge, I noticed that I had pinched the tube and had to tear down again and repair the tube. By this time, I had been out on the road for a long time and was worried about Kathie worrying about me. I asked Larry to ride ahead and tell her I was on my way. As it turned out, Kathie had been walking down the highway to find me. Larry noticed her and apologized that he had been the one holding the process up. He was also a great comfort to her at this time as she knew something had gone wrong. We all hopped into the trailer on the side of the road and had an ice cream treat together before we all headed our separate ways. We feel that it was a real blessing that Larry showed up when he did. Thanks Larry!
Kathie and I rode on. The scenery was stunning. Hite, however, kept hiding around the next corner. I arrived in Hite just before dark. Kathie had made a friend of the camp host and we enjoyed her company throughout the weekend and she enjoyed having someone to talk to. They explored the area looking for fun rocks.
