Today was fun! At least that is what I call it when I can ride with friends. My son, Brandon, his family and Jeff Miller met us in Escalante Friday morning. It was fun to see them. Jeff was thinking of leap frogging with his car over Boulder Mountain Pass. We talked him out of it. Brandon and Jeff rode their bikes over Highway 12 with me. It was fun for Kathryn to have some company while the rest of the family all waited for me to climb the mountain. They did yoga out on the rocks and the kids looked for lizards.

Brandon rode with Jeff and I up to Boulder where we stopped for lunch. I had remembered that the town of Boulder was at the top of the pass. That was far from reality. I’m not sure Boulder is even half of the way to the summit. We had a little laugh, at Brandon’s expense, as his tubeless tire was flat when we were done with lunch. He filled it up with air and he took off not be be seen until the summit. Jeff and I rode together to the summit.

At the summit it was fun to have Amy and the children there. They had fun climbing the mountain to the rock ridge where they enjoyed a beautiful vista. While we were talking, Larry Hiss rode up on his motorcycle. He had ridden south to Boulder Mountain to be with us. It was fun to have him there too. We had a good chat at the summit and then took off to meet again in Torrey. The last stretch from the top of the pass to Torrey was tough as I thought we had finished our ride and we had a few miles to go. We found all the campgrounds full at Torrey, so Kathie and I made reservations in Loa.

Larry volunteered to take Jeff back to his car in Escalante. Larry rearranged his gear and Brandon made room for Jeff’s bike and they headed out. As it turned out it was rather cold up over the summit for Larry and Jeff.

Brandon, Amy and family had dinner with us in Torrey.

It meant more to me to have family and friends come the length of Utah to spend some time with us. Thanks!!
