Distance: 82 miles. Ham’s Station, CA to Carson City, NV
After a Sunday of rest it felt like it was back to work. I climbed through some very beautiful country of high elevation lakes and trees. I rode right about the timber line.

Carson Pass at 8574 feet was impressive. I spoke to a truck driver at the summit. He said he hates this pass because every time he climbs it something happens to his truck. He said that last time he blew a radiator hose and today he had overheated the engine. There was snow next to the road and it felt good to go down and collect on some of that warmth.

I got a minor thrill as I passed someone riding their bike up the last climb into South Lake Tahoe. Imagine that! I wasn’t the last one over the hill.
We filled the car up with gas just before Lake Tahoe. I got a little concerned when Kathie never passed me. It turns out GPS sent her another route into Carson City.
I felt very excited as I crossed over into Nevada at Lake Tahoe It is hard to express the raw beauty of Lake Tahoe. For those of you who haven’t been there, you owe it to yourself to give it a view. I rode around the east side of the lake before climbing out of the Tahoe valley. It was a long climb out of the valley, but I did get a little wake up call when I saw the beware of bears signs.

We stayed that night in Carson City, NV. I have completed one state!
